My book review of 'The Party' by Tessa Hadley
It's post-war Bristol and sisters Moira and Evelyn go to an art students’ party in a dockside pub. They meet two men and are wooed by their worldliness and sophistication.
A few days later the sisters are invited to join Paul and Sinden at a mansion owned by Paul's family. Moira accepts though Evelyn isn't sure they should go.
As the night unfolds the sisters learn things about themselves and each other that shock them, and release them into a new phase of their lives.
It's a coming of age novel that explores who we are and who we might become. Beautifully written and a perfect length!
