I'm rather a fan of Emily Sutton's work, with its gorgeous colour and detail, depicting stunning interior and exterior domestic scenes as well as flora and fauna as in this book!

Here we are introduced to a young girl called Betty who loves spending time with her grandmother. Together they gather fruit to make jam to sell at the local market. The garden is carefully tended but waking up one morning, Betty discovers that it has been destroyed. Someone or something has run amok and all is lost.

Betty's grandmother is remarkably pragmatic about the whole affair, but Betty is more curious and stays up all night to discover what has happened and who is responsible. 

The cover picture provides a clue.

It's a glorious book for readers aged four upwards. I loved it. It's a book I'd like on my shelf for easy access when I need a quick fix of joy and inspiration. How wonderful to be able to create pictures like these!
