My book review of 'One of the Good Guys' by Araminta Hall
This is one of those books where I really don't want to tell you much about it. I picked it up, turned to the first page and couldn't stop reading until it was done, and it took me a little while to work out what was going on. But that discovery was part of the thrill of this novel.
OK, so I'll tell you that we begin with Cole, one of the good guys. He's reeling after the break up of his marriage and is trying to make a new life for himself on the south coast.
He meets Lennie, an artist, who seems to be doing just the same, renting an isolated cottage on the cliff edge.
They become friends and perhaps romance is on the cards.
But a sponsored walk to raise awareness about violence against women nears their homes, and disrupts what they were hoping to build together. And reveals that all was not as it seemed.
This is a fantastic read which raises big issues in an easy but devastating way. It's the book you want your friends to read - quickly - so that you can talk it through, almost chapter by chapter!
