My book review of 'Book Hospital' by Leigh Hodgkinson
It's a quirky tale about a book who doesn't look as smart as he once did. He's been well loved and as a result his pages are a little tatty and his jacket is a little battered. But he's glad that he looks this way because he's been picked up and read time and again.
The book tells us the sad tale of other books which haven't been so well used and he also points out how some books are badly treated. And then - catastrophe - someone tears out his last page! Fortunately he is taken to hospital, a book hospital, in the hope that something can be done.
It is a fun idea, with bright and cheerful illustrations, and ultimately (with the last page taped back in) it encourages children to think about taking care of their books. Lovely.
