My book review of 'The Koala Who Could' by Rachel Bright and illustrated by Jim Field
I recently discovered this lovely picture book for young children set among Australian wildlife. Koalas are an easy sell but this book also encourages readers to have courage and not be afraid of change.
Kevin is a koala who likes everything to stay the same. Clinging to his tree he can enjoy the warm breeze and the bright sun. He doesn't need to be with the other wild animals running around below.
His friends want to see more of Kevin, though, and they want him to have a bit more fun. How can they encourage him to try something different, to get down from his tree and join them?
Their methods actually seemed a bit brutal for me(!), but the results were great - Kevin realised that change can be good and there can be more opportunities and excitement if you're prepared to step out of your comfort zone.
Lovely illustrations, a sweet story and all in rhyme. It'll make you smile!
