My book review of 'What is war?' by Eduard Altaribba
We're living in difficult and confusing times, but among a series by Button Books are highly illustrated informative guides to war and also immigration (called 'Migrants').
In spot colour, this book is dense with information but presented in an attractive, accessible way.
Using maps, diagrams and illustrations, the author presents a different aspect of conflict, and resolution, in each spread.
Why do countries, and people, fight? What do they hope to gain from causing so much destruction? Are some wars necessary? What are the tools used in war?
This slim book covers notable wars throughout history as well as modern warfare and technology, and concludes with summaries of the situation in Syria and Ukraine.
There are also descriptions of peace and mediation, interventions and pacts.
It's a useful tool for children aged nine upwards, and adults!
