This is a lovely, upbeat, big hearted pony story suitable for readers aged seven upwards and, though the main protagonists are girls, there is a boy at the stables, eager to have his own pony, and a girl in a wheelchair too. There are cheery illustrations throughout the story and it's the start of a series so I look forward to reading more!

Summer is desperate for her own pony, or even to have riding lessons at the local stables, but money is tight at home. Dad is doing his best but works long hours and Summer's Mum isn't around any more. 

One day a chance meeting at school leads Summer to befriend Jesse, a girl with her own pony who invites Summer along with her to Starlight Stables. Here Summer impresses everyone with her enthusiasm and hard work and with other young people there too, they form their own little group, or gang.

The children are resourceful, highly scrupled and devoted to the animals so they are outraged when kittens are under threat, and then a horse goes missing. And a recent theft from the till at the yard may lead them to the person who's responsible for these terrible deeds.

It's a great book! It's just the right pace, vivid and warm characterisation, a few 'issues' tackled lightly and with sensitivity, and overall it's a good old-fashioned adventure. Loved it.
