Cloudburst
by Wilbur Smith

Fourteen-year-old Jack is in the Democratic Republic of Congo with his parents and friends, Amelia and Xander.

It's the trip of a lifetime. While Jack's parents attend a conference about environmental issues, the three teenagers are on a trip through the Rainforest, eager to see as much of the wildlife as they can.

But, after confronting poachers and disturbing gorillas, and experiencing great tragedy, the teenagers return to find that Jack's parents are missing from the hotel, kidnapped, and it is up to them to find out what has happened.

This is a fabulous read. Great scene-setting and powerful, attractive and interesting characters. Jack feels responsible for his brother's death years earlier, Amelia is smart but unaware of the nuances of social interaction, and Xander is a quiet voice of reason.

There's danger round every corner, but the teenagers are resourceful, events are credible and the final twist devastating!
