Jack and Meredith are twins but they don't look alike and they don't think alike. They haven't had much to do with each other but now their lives are beginning to unravel - his successful career has been abruptly cut short with a devastating diagnosis and she is struggling to keep it together after her husband leaves her. Meredith's two teenage children look rather precarious too - one looking for love on the internet, the other dabbling in taxidermy.

As Jack and Meredith learn to lean on each other more, they discover things about their parents - an absent father and an emotionally distant mother - which may not be what they want or need to know, yet, strangely, it seems to give them renewed strength and hope for the future.

Despite failed marriages, lonely and bewildered children, dashed dreams and health worries being a sad reality for so many, Tom Winter's portrayal is full of humour and whimsy. It's an entertaining read with characters that are charming and engaging.
