The Book of Beginnings

We've had the resurgence of bookshops and record shops and the return to using typewriters, now we also have stationery shops coming back to the high street. It seems we're appreciating that 'real life' is better than electronic in so many ways. And this book goes a little way to celebrating that trend too as it's set in an imaginary stationery shop in London.

Jo needs to get away from all that's going wrong in her life when she agrees to look after her uncle's stationery shop for a few weeks. Here she delights in finding just what her customers need in terms of pens and paper, but also the bigger issues too of relationships, career and purpose!

There are different threads running through as the various customers are introduced, and Jo battles the challenges of having an estranged friend, a cheating partner and an unfulfilling career.

We also learn some fascinating details about Highgate Cemetery as one of the customers researches its history, and if you have problems with your fountain pen no longer writing, dip it in water as dried ink may be clogging the nib...

It's a charming, feel-good book which is an easy, enjoyable read.
