My book review of 'The Final Hours of Muriel Hinchcliffe MBE' by Claire Parkin
Muriel is a successful romantic novelist and Ruth, her friend, is a journalist. Their lives have been intertwined, sharing good times and bad. But now Muriel's health is deteriorating and Ruth has become her carer.
This is an easy review for me to write, because I can't tell you much more about this story - you need to discover it for yourself. But there are some surprises in store.
It's described as 'an intensely gripping story of toxic friendship, revenge and jealousy'.
It's very cleverly written, I think, and wrongfoots the reader on a number of occasions. It certainly stays with you long after you've put it down. There's a wry, black humour about it, I suppose, but it's an unusual and different read which wasn't what I was expecting...
