My book review of 'The Winter Visitor' by James Henry
I've enjoyed reading the books by James Henry, but this is my favourite so far!
It's a winter's night in Essex in 1991 and the sky is glowing with the flames from an arson attack at a church on the water's edge.
Police officers are sent to investigate and are immediately puzzled by a bird's feather among the debris. Is it significant? Was it left by the perpetrators? What does it mean?
More mysterious events follow. A notorious drug-dealer, returned from the Costa del Sol is abducted and murdered, and an elderly florist commits suicide.
Detectives Kenton and Brazier probe members of the community as they seek to find out what is going on and to prevent any further loss of life. Could the events be connected?
This is a wonderfully atmospheric and compelling crime mystery with beautiful descriptions bringing the place, period and settings to life.
