While I have to acknowledge that I'm more a cat person than a dog-lover, this is a wonderfully funny, joyful and entertaining celebration of our four-legged friends.

There are wide-eyed mischievous dogs on every page frolicking through a rhyming alphabet of their favourite pursuits - flopping and fetching, begging, barking and catching, getting covered in mud and hiding with stolen slippers.

The illustrations are brilliant - Sara Ogilvie worked on Julia Donaldson's 'The Hospital Dog', so I'm already a fan.

This is aimed at very young children but any age will love this book. In fact perhaps we should all get a copy for those slow, grey days - it's a real tonic!
