My book review of 'A Year on Adam's Farm' by Adam Henson and illustrated by Rachael Saunders
Adam Henson visited us in Woodbridge to talk to us about 'Christmas on the Farm', but he also introduced us to his children's book.
He told us that his hope for this book was that it was something for all the family to enjoy together, with lots to learn about modern farming, explaining where our food comes from in a fun, attractive and accessible way.
While it is a board book, so it can be handled happily by very young children, the illustrations are beautifully delicate and detailed and there is just the right amount of text to intrigue older children and adults too.
It's very much up to date so in addition to the cows, sheep, horses and birds, there's information about the speed of tractors and how robots and drones are being used on the land today. And the 40 flaps open up for extra surprises (like looking inside a combine harvester!).
It's a brilliantly packaged book which successfully marries enlightening, real life, up-to-date information with appealing artwork and the story of Adam and his sheepdog Peg working on the farm through the passing seasons to keep you turning the pages. This is a great gift which all the family will enjoy.
