My book review of 'Welcome to the world' by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury
What a wonderful teaming for this new picture book celebrating babies' first experiences - there's rhyming text from Julia Donaldson, the author of 'The Gruffalo' and beautiful illustrations from Helen Oxenbury, best known for 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'.
Feeding ducks, riding on a bus, eating strawberries and banging pots and pans - there are lots of wonderful scenes expressing the joy of introducing a baby to the world.
"Welcome to the bicycles. Welcome to the cars.
Welcome to the grandads strumming their guitars."
It's a real delight and perfect to read aloud. The mix of gleeful illustrations and buoyant rhyming text means reading this book can't help but put a smile on your face!
