My book review of 'When I was a fairy' by Tom Silson and illustrated by Ewa Poklewska-Koziello
Who is the fairy who used to drive dragonflies, chase stars across the sky, sing with the swallows and sleep on dandelion pillows?
Reliving the memories of a magical time, our narrator speaks in rhyme and the illlustrations are charmingly cheery in their colour palette with plenty to explore on each page.
As the story continues, we find that the fairy is in fact grandma, and she is sharing her adventures with her granddaughter. She is eager to instill in the young child the same sense of excitement and wonder she once knew, and in doing so, her own life becomes brighter and fuller. Rather lovely!
