My book review of 'The Pattern in the Carpet' by Margaret Drabble
There's something all-consuming about a jigsaw that certainly ensures you can while away vast chunks of time without realising.
And here it's a fascinating device for the author Margaret Drabble to explore her family history, writing a memoir prompted by her love of jigsaws.
She writes beautifully, of course, and, along with sharing her personal story, she shares something of the history of jigsaws and our pleasures in puzzling, the importance of play, as well as how to make sense of our past, and growing older
