My book review of 'The Secret' by Lee Child and Andrew Child
It's an amazing opening, as you'd expect. We're completely immersed in the action from the outset.
It's Chicago in 1992. A hospital patient wakes to find two strangers by his bed. They show him a list of names and ask a simple question. But the answer isn't one they want to hear and minutes later he falls to his death from the twelfth-floor window.
Other deaths follow. And Jack Reacher is enlisted as part of an inter-agency task force to find out about a secret that stretches back 23 years. Can he prevent the perpetrators from taking any more lives?
It's gripping, intriguing and compelling. And particularly interesting to read of strong, unpredictable and determined female villains (that's not a spoiler - we meet them in the opening chapter!).
