An evening with Barbara Erskine - Event Report

After reading Barbara Erskine's new book, I knew that we had to organise something very special.

The story is set in Woodbridge and along the river and is set in three time periods, typical of Barbara's writing. There are mentions of the bakery on the Thoroughfare and a ghost ship travelling along a misty river.

We hired National Trust Sutton Hoo allowing our audience to wander the exhibition hall as they drank Aspalls sparkling cider and nibbled delicious canapes.

Then we moved into the restaurant area with windows looking out over the grounds, the trees and the river in the distance, and listened to a talk from the author as the sun went down behind her.

Barbara was troubled with a bad cold but battled on to tell us about her love of this area and her memories of sailing the river with her husband, and she bravely answered the many questions from the audience before everybody queued to buy her book and have it signed. There was then the opportunity for a short walk round the grounds before the night and the ghosts closed in.
