Word Perfect with Susie Dent ONLINE
Susie Dent has been presenting from Dictionary Corner on TV's 'Countdown' for 28 years, and is also a member of the team for the comedy spin-off '8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown'.
Her passion for words and language is contagious and in this new book she has compiled a word for every day of the year to entertain and intrigue us all.
While Susie was hoping to visit Woodbridge to launch this new book (her 16th!), the Covid situation meant that was no longer possible so I was thrilled that we were able to talk to Susie online instead.
I talked to Susie about her career in television, her love of language and some of her favourite words included in 'Word Perfect'.
She shared stories behind phrases such as 'turning a blind eye' (Nelson putting the telescope to his missing eye to ignore the order to stop fighting) and why 'May Day' became a distress call. We learnt the background to words such as 'tartle' (forgetting someone’s name) or 'snaccident' (unintentionally eating a whole packet of biscuits).
There was also the opportunity for questions from the audience, and a signed copy of the book was available for all attendees.
Tickets were £15 which included access to the live online event and a copy of 'Word Perfect'.
