My book review of 'Robin Hood: Hacking, Heists and Flaming Arrows' by Robert Muchamore

by Robert Muchamore
Recommended age: 11+

I have to say that the adventures of Robin Hood have never really grabbed me, and I'm not a fan of modern retellings...

But this is the first of a series, aimed at readers aged 11+, and I thought it was great!

In Locksley today the car plants have shut down and the once prosperous town has become a wasteland of empty homes, toxic land and troubled and struggling families.

The authorities are controlled by the profit-obsessed Sheriff of Nottingham who's in the thrall of underworld boss, Guy Gisborne.

When his dad is framed for a robbery, Robin and his brother Little John are forced to flee from Locksley and find refuge among the outlaws and dissenters living in the Sherwood forest.

Robin is determined to find a way to release his father and, with the help of his new friend, Marion Maid, and his skills at computer hacking and archery (a formidable combination), seeks to strike a blow against Gisborne and the Sheriff. A fabulous and inventive adventure made relevant for our times.
