Reasons to Stay Alive
The most astonishing personal account of understanding and coping with depression. An uplifting, inspiring and moving read which you want to pick up again as soon as you put it down.
My review:
I'd seen this reviewed widely and was intrigued by it. A memoir about experiencing depression, it was written by an author that I've come close to reading a number of times but never managed it. His novels have never appealed, though I may try them again after reading this.
It's a beautifully packaged book - small, white, hardback, short chapters, very personal while also being very practical and he doesn't blind you with science when he has researched or discovered a new fact. It's incredibly readable and leaves you feeling energised, inspired, uplifted and hopeful, despite the subject matter.
It is full of soundbites, quotes, things you want to remember and to return to. I am sure I'll read this bookk again, and again.
