Details for 'Snow Day' by Richard Curtis
Snow Day
Danny wakes up to find that it has snowed heavily in the night, and his journey to school takes longer than usual. But when he arrives, there's no one else there - except for one teacher, the teacher he likes least of all.
The day starts badly, as Danny and his teacher realise they have a long day of lessons ahead of them. Gradually, though, the snow's magic begins to work, and soon the books are pushed aside as they enjoy skating, sledging and throwing snowballs together as great friends.
Beautifully, joyfully, illustrated by Rebecca Cobb, this is a lovely book. Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times that I did feel slightly uncomfortable - a lone male teacher with one small boy in his charge in a deserted school? - but in celebrating the magic, the otherworldliness of the snow, it's also an opportunity to be nostalgic for innocence and friendship.
