Details for 'Cuckoo's Calling' by Robert Galbraith
Cuckoo's Calling
I resisted JK Rowling's non-Harry-Potter books for as long as possible, but eventually succumbed. A number of people recommended this title to me and as soon as I started it, I was hooked!
The vivid, detailed, thoughtful scene-setting and the beguiling central characters kept me enthralled and I delighted in losing myself in the world of the struggling detective and his conscientious, romantic secretary.
I wasn't entirely convinced with the crime - and the world of the supermodel with her rich friends in the fashion and music scenes, didn't engage me. There were elements of the writing that puzzled me, too, certainly at the beginning - the construction of over-long sentences seemed incorrect so that I had to reread to make sense of them. And there was an unfortunate repetition of a phrase in the epilogue. But I fear I'm nit-picking because of the author's identity. I loved the book and am eager to read the next!
