Details for 'April's Garden' by Isla McGuckin and illustrated by Catalina Echeverri
This is a picture book for young children and lightly touches on a difficult and challenging subject of a mother and daughter moving into temporary accommodation. Though specific in some of the issues they have to face, the book is a heavily illustrated story of how to deal with big life changes of all sorts and is full of hope and promise for the future.
Though April's mum says their move to new accommodation offers a fresh start and lots of opportunities, April finds a place which is grey and broken and with people nearby she's not sure about.
April and her mum try to find ways to make the place more friendly and welcoming and more like home, but the seeds that April plants hoping for lots of lovely flowers take a little while to grow.
Learning patience and perseverance, April is finally rewarded, and as well as beautiful plants, she and her mum find a home of their own.
An interesting book showing how we all need to display resilience and courage in difficult situations, and that there is always hope.
