Details for 'Queenie' by Candice Carty-Williams
Queenie
A warm and funny account of a young, professional, black woman seeking love, friendship and fulfilment.
My review:
Queenie lives in London and works for a national newspaper. She's Jamaican and British but never feels entirely at home as either. She's split up from her long-term boyfriend and is ricocheting from one damaging relationship to another.
Everything seems to be going wrong, but she's just about keeping her head above water as she asks herself the searching questions every young woman asks herself - who do you want to be?
This is a blunt, honest and dark comedy which touches on relationships, race, family and friendship. It's funny and subversive, insightful and revealing. The characters are engaging and you're desperately rooting for Queenie. I loved it!
